IEP Level 6 is designed for the Advanced student in English-language training—someone who satisfies all social demands and most survival needs in English; communicates about and discusses a variety of topics on the telephone and in person; clarifies meaning through strategies such as paraphrasing; gives sequential oral directions to complete a complex task that involves multiple steps; reads and interprets simplified and some non-simplified materials on familiar topics; reads and interprets simple charts, graphs, and labels; completes simple order forms; and writes short personal notes/letters and short memos, reports, and e-mail messages.


Upon successful completion of the Advanced level, the student will
• have a solid command of the English grammatical structures;
• be able to use a very wide range of conversational strategies;
• read at an average rate;
• be able to use prewriting and pre-reading skills for academic purposes;
• have an academic English vocabulary;
• be able to write essays in complex English sentences;
• be able to perform research and cite information,
• read technical material,
• give group presentations,
• write summary critiques, and
• participate in debates as exhibited through the unit, midterm and final assessment scores.
