IEP Level 5 is designed for the High Intermediate student in English-language training—someone who functions independently in most familiar situations; participates in conversations on a variety of topics; clarifies meaning by rewording or repeating; uses some spontaneity and creativity in producing language not previously learned or memorized; follows oral directions in familiar contexts; reads and interprets simplified and some authentic material on familiar subjects; takes notes and phone messages; writes short personal notes and letters; writes about simplified and some non-simplified familiar subjects; fills out various forms and applications; and handles limited public contact.


Upon successful completion of the High Intermediate level, the student will
• have a good command of the all English grammatical structures
• be able to use a very wide range of conversational strategies,
• understand intermediate English writing strategies,
• have a wide functional English vocabulary,
• enjoy speaking and writing the English language, and
• listen, read, speak, and write English well enough to progress to Level 6 as exhibited
through the unit, midterm and final assessment scores.
